2025 Range Day

The SJRGC held its first integrated Range Day event this year. We had over 25 participants and onlookers attend. The Board would like to thank all those who attended. Overall the event went extremely well and the feedback has been positive.  And yes, we have learned some lessons!

We would like to thank representatives from the Archery group for coming, setting up a demonstration  and encouraging all to have a try at archery.

Organization of such an event takes a lot of work. Many people in all of the different fields were involved; however, Evan Kearley took on organizing both rifle and pistol events and compiling the scores. Thank you Evan!  Special thanks also to the Range/Safety Officers and those who prepared, cooked or provided food.

Most important of all was the sportspersonship and comradery that was evident throughout the day.

On June 7th we will celebrate National Range Day by having a club member shoot involving trap, sporting clays, rifle and pistol. We are using ALL the ranges that day (IPSC Black Badge course on A), so the ranges will not be available for general usage on that day.  

Most of the details were sent out by email to all members. Note that rifle will be shot on Range B using the 50, 100 and 200 stands. 

Archery will set up a demonstration event. 

We need a better idea of numbers of members who will come to participate or watch. Lunch will be provided. Fee is $30 active participants and $10 for those who only have lunch. 

Provided below is a link to Practiscore - software for setting up and scoring matches. Those who shoot pistol will recognize it. IPSC and Steel Challenge at the Club use it routinely.  To register via Practiscore you need to "join" it. It does not bombard you with emails. You need to log on to it to register for matches.  Please either register by Practiscore, or send an email to the club email address.

With the lack of a snow build up and "good" weather so far, we have been able to get a jump start on range maintenance and repairs. 

Range B - backstops tamped down at 50 and 100m. New target stand built at 200 yds. Extension to culvert added at 50m. 

Range C - new backstop was built and minor improvement to drainage and range floor.

Range A - large rocks removed from range floor and upgrade made to whole range floor. Clean up of ditches. Repairs to backstop and side berm. 

A, B and C will have hydro-seeding applied to the backstops.

DEF - sporting clays trail and access trails were upgraded in places. Improvement to drainage around the clay shed, and levelling off of the shed. A couple of new covers for the launchers have been added. 

Normal maintenance has or will be carried out by the Trap and Archery groups. 

New sign was added at TCH to replace old one that rusted out and blew down. 

Clubhouse - the furnace is now operating again! There are plans to add eaves and eave trough to the main clubhouse. 

Longbranch - plan to finish off clapboard, fix eaves and re-shingle the roof. 

There are always things that need fixing or re-painting around the club. If you would like to lend a hand, please let anyone on the Board, or Committee Chairs know. 

We would also appreciate it if users would clean up after themselves. Shotgun hulls go in the garbage. Brass can be recycled and goes in the orange buckets (which are NOT for garbage). Targets should be removed from the target stands. No target stands should be left forward of the 25m sign on Range C. There is a large white plastic container across from the Longbranch that should be used to dispose of coroplast and boxes, or large targets.

For everyone looking forward to shooting sporting clays this summer we are starting the late afternoon-evening shoots on Wednesday, May 21. We will start shooting around 4 pm but as in previous years participants can arrive anytime they can get off work and make their way out to the club.

Members provide their own ammo (7 1/2 or smaller such as 8 or 9) eye and ear protection. The club will provide targets. Target costs are $18 for a round of 50. We have punch cards for $90 for twelve punches. A round of 50 is two punches. Juniors are half price supported by the club.

Remember to bring cash for target fees and/or punch card purchases as we do not accept electronic payments.

Please note that we are currently looking for help with setup on Wednesday afternoons if anyone is available, even just periodically throughout the summer. If you are able to help out, please let us know. Our events are run by volunteer club members and extra help goes a long way to ensure these events can take place 

We will shoot every Wednesday depending on weather. If there are any changes to the schedule I will post an announcement on the club website and send out an email.
