Club Introduction

The St. John’s Rod and Gun Club is one of the top multi-discipline gun clubs in Atlantic Canada. Located near Holyrood Newfoundland on the Trans-Canada Highway east of the Salmonier Line (Route 90), we offer fantastic facilities for a wide variety of recreational and competitive shooting disciplines. For shotgun sports, the Club features four ATA spec. Trap Fields each with automatic clay target throwers and automated voice release systems. Our Sporting Clays Range features a beautiful trail through the forest with multiple shooting stations and a wide variety of manual and electric clay target throwers. Our 16 stall outdoor rifle range provides an excellent opportunity to shoot air rifles, handguns, and long guns (up to and including the 338 Lapua magnum class firearms) from 50 to 200 yards. Our new (2017) outdoor pistol range features 12 shooting stalls with target stands set at 20-25m. Our flexible firing line pistol pit enables us to hold IPSC, IDPA, and Cowboy Action competitions as well as 50 metre rifle competitions. In 2015, our club welcomed the Archery Group with a newly developed 15 station 3D animal field course as well as a 90 meter practice range. The SJRGC is represented in various competitions locally, provincially, nationally and internationally by several of our members in many disciplines. Many of these members compete at the highest level in international competitions.

The St. John’s Rod and Gun Club also offers an excellent Junior Program teaching safety, responsibility, and discipline in the use of rifles, handguns and shotguns.. Young people will be our future shooters and hunters, this program stresses the proper handling of airguns and firearms so that safety becomes second nature. Many adults also accompany our juniors to create a fun, friendly, family event.

The St. John’s Rod and Gun Club is a member owned and operated facility and we are listed on the website of the National Association of Shooting Ranges. The club was created to  provide an opportunity for firearms enthusiasts to enjoy our sport in a safe, competitive, well-run facility. We are more than just a gun club as we also enjoy participating in fishing, conservation, and social activities. There is also a (currently inactive) Beagle Group. Members new and old are always welcome and urged to take part in all aspects of the club, enjoy our several hundred acres of Forest and Ponds, and to make themselves at home in our cozy log clubhouse.
